Mail or Email Application Materials to a (non-ByCommittee) Job Opening or Other Opportunity

This article explains how to create a delivery to send application materials by mail or email when applying for a job or other opportunity. We have created a separate article about submitting documents when applying to a job, fellowship or other opportunity through ByCommittee.

With an Interfolio Dossier account, you control when and how your materials are sent to receiving institutions. You can use our fee-based service to mail or email application materials, recommendations and other documents anywhere in the world. You can also upload letters of recommendation from your Dossier to an online application system. In addition, we work with many admissions offices and hiring committees to allow applicants to transmit documents electronically (for free!) through our ByCommittee product.

The four types of deliveries you can create and send using your Interfolio account are:

  1. Mail Deliveries (USPS or FedEx)
  2. Email Deliveries
  3. Electronic Deliveries to a ByCommittee position or other electronic receiver
  4. Uploads of letters to online application systems

Click the "Manage Dossier" link on your Interfolio Account Dashboard

Click the "New Application" button

Start typing the name of an institution or organization into the search box

If we already have information on specific positions, either because the organization receives documents directly from Interfolio's ByCommittee service or as part of our partnership with the MLA, a link to the position will begin to appear on your screen.

If the position you are looking for appears listed here, click "Select," and consult this article on applying to a job, fellowship, or other opportunity through or ByCommittee service.

Enter the full name of the destination and choose your delivery method

Click "Create Delivery" to get started with either the mail or email delivery. If you are sending documents to an online application system you will need to return to your documents page and follow the instructions here for uploading letters to an online application system.

For mail deliveries:

1. Enter the destination and click "Create Delivery" to mail documents

2. Provide the destination, recipient name, title and department as well as physical address

3. Select the documents you want mailed from your Dossier account or click to "Upload New File"

Note: If you upload a new file, you will need to select it after you have completed uploading and the document appears in the list. There may be a brief wait while the document is processed by our system.

4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Continue" when you have selected all documents to be mailed

5. Review your delivery information for accuracy and add or remove documents if necessary

6. Preview a PDF of the packet we will print and send to your destination

You can drag and drop the documents to change the order in which they will appear in the printed packet. You can also preview the packet as we will print it.

Note: Confidential recommendations will appear with a placeholder in the PDF to preserve confidentiality.

7. Select your Shipping Method (Note: FedEx will not deliver to P.O. Boxes) and click "Proceed to Payment"

Note: If this delivery includes documents such as letters of recommendation that have not yet been received by interfolio, you will see a notice to that effect and the documents will be sent when we receive all of the documents requested for the delivery.

8. Complete your order on the "Delivery Payment" screen

9. Upon payment you will be taken to the Deliveries & Applications page where you can manage your deliveries

Note: The ByCommittee tab illustrated below will ONLY display if you have also applied to one or more ByCommittee positions.

For email deliveries:

1. Enter the destination and click "Create Delivery" to email documents

2. Complete all required delivery information and click "Continue"

Enter the recipient name, email address and a subject line for your email.

Note: We perform quality checks to make sure our deliveries remain secure and complete. It is useful to include a link to a web page with information about the position, program, grant, etc. to which you are sending materials. This will help us expedite our review process and get your delivery to its destination as quickly as possible.

Complete all required delivery information and click "Continue"

3. Select the documents you want mailed from your Dossier account or upload a new file

If you upload a new file, you will need to select it when it appears in the list.

4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Continue" when you have selected all documents to be emailed

5. Review your delivery information for accuracy and add or remove documents if necessary

6. Preview a PDF of the packet we will print and send to your destination

7. Select "Email Delivery" as your shipping method and click to "Proceed to Payment"

Note: If for any reason you are eligible for a free email delivery that option will appear here.

8. Select your payment method and click "Complete Payment" to complete your order

9. Upon payment you will be taken to your Deliveries/Applications page where you can manage your deliveries
