What is a unique document ID?
Interfolio generates a unique document ID for each document in the system. The ID is a six-digit number/letter combination that represents a Fileholder account, a document author and a document placeholder.
Where is the document ID?
You will find this ID located in the body of the emailed letter writing request and on the paper Request Form. Document IDs are also listed in a writer's list of pending letter requests and are viewable to Fileholders in their My Documents view.
Who needs to know about document IDs?
Writers who are asked to submit letters of recommendation to Interfolio need to know about document IDs. When a writer submits a letter to Interfolio, that document ID must be provided with the letter that is submitted.
If a letter is being submitted by mail, does it need the document ID?
Yes. The document ID is located on the Letter Request Form provided to you on paper or via email. A print out of that form needs to accompany the letter when it is submitted to Interfolio by mail. The Interfolio team will use the barcode and corresponding document ID to place your letter into the proper Fileholder account.
If a letter is uploaded, does it need the document ID?
Yes. During the upload process, you will be asked for the document ID. That document ID will ensure that you upload the letter into the proper Fileholder account.
