What is a Recommendation Writer account?

A writer account is one that is used by a recommendation writer who needs to submit to a letter of recommendation on behalf of Interfolio fileholder to that fileholder's Interfolio account.

How much does a Writer account cost?

Recommendation Writer accounts are FREE.  Submitting a letter of recommendation to Interfolio is free.

Why do I have to create an account to submit a letter?

A free Interfolio Writer account enables you to submit the letters to Interfolio by way of electronic submission.

Here are some of the benefits of creating an account:

1. Fast, secure electronic upload capability. In order to add a letter to the Interfolio system by electronic upload, you will need to create an Interfolio account.

2. Access to letters written in the past providing an easy way to update past letters and create new ones.

3. Easy management of inbound letter writing requests. No need to keep track of emails or lists of people you need to write letters for. It will all be stored in your Interfolio account.

How can I create a Writer account?

There are two ways to create a Letter Writer Account.

1.  If you have received an email letter writing request, there is a link in that email that will lead you to the page you need to create your account.  If you click on that link to create your account, your pending letter request will be visible to you as soon as you have finished the quick account creation process.

2.  Sign up for a FREE Writer account by navigating to https://www.interfolio.com/index.cfm?event=signup.freeaccount.

Can I collect my own work in my writer account?

If you wish to collect your own information, you will need to upgrade your Letter Writer account to a Fileholder Account.  You will still have access to the letters that you have written on behalf of others but you will also be able to collect your own work, request and manage your own letters of recommendation and send out deliveries.

When a Writer upgrades to a combined Writer and Fileholder account, the user pays the fees associated with a Fileholder account.  A Fileholder account costs $19/year to activate.  Fileholders also pay for delivery fees.

How do I transform my Letter Writer account into a combination Fileholder/Letter Writer account?

To add Fileholder capabilities to your letter writer account, click on the My Documents or My Deliveries tab to view information about the Fileholder account.  Click on the Upgrade My Account link and follow the prompts to activate the new functionality.

When a Writer upgrades to a combined Writer and Fileholder account, the user pays the fees associated with a Fileholder account.  A Fileholder account costs $15/year to activate.  Fileholders also pay for delivery fees.

When will I see a pending letter request in my account?

When a Fileholder creates a letter writing request that is associated with your email address, that pending request will be viewable in your Interfolio account.

When you log in to your Interfolio account, you will be taken to the View Pending Letters page by default.  You will see a list of all pending requests, meaning, those requests that you have not fulfilled.

How do I fulfill those pending letter requests?

You can fulfill those requests right from your pending letters page. Click on the Upload Letter or Mail Letter buttons that appear inline with the Fileholder name. To find out more information about the request, click on the Fileholder name to view the Request Details page.

I don't see my advisee's pending request when I log into my Interfolio account.  What should I do?

  • If you have a printed Request Form in your possession, locate the unique document ID located on the form. Use that ID to upload your letter.
  • If you do not have a printed Request Form, ask your Fileholder to provide you with the document ID associated with your letter request.  You may use that ID to upload your letter.
